Peer Advocacy Program, which outreaches to recipients of mental health services and their families, recruits and trains people to participate in the mental health services planning process, identifies educational needs and has established an advocacy informational center and network. Workshops regarding advocacy issues are made available to recipients of mental health services throughout the county.
An advocate is a person who represents someone elses interests. The advocates job is to achieve as much as possible for the client within the legal limits according to what the client is legally entitled to.
Services and information available include:
- Self-help
- Support Groups
- Social Clubs
- Legal Rights Information as a Psychiatric Patient
- Reassurance in hospital setting
- General housing information
Peer Linkage Advocate:
- works with people that have psychiatric disabilities
- works with people that have made contact with the hospital
- works with friends and family members helping them to understand the process in the hospital
- also provides reassurance
- makes sure the client is aware of all available services
- makes sure that the client will obtain the best services available
